Umbarger Show Feeds

Umbarger Show Feeds

Umbarger Show Feeds is a family-owned show-feed company. Its history page says Roy L. Umbarger started Roy Umbarger & Son in Bargersville, Indiana, in the summer of 1939. Umbarger Show Feeds began in the 1980s, when the family rebuilt the mill to make textured feeds with steam-flaked grains. In the spring of 2021 the company opened a show-feed mill in Franklin, Indiana, and moved its headquarters there. The site lists the address as 186 S 600 E, Franklin, Indiana 46131, and says the feeds are available through over 400 dealers. The line on the site is “To be the best, you have to feed the best.”

The site groups products for cattle, goats, sheep, show pigs, poultry, and horses.

Bulletproof Umbarger

Bulletproof is the sheep and goat top-dress at the top of Umbarger’s sheep page. Umbarger calls it an all-in-one top-dress to enhance bloom, rack shape, and a firm, smooth, uniform handle. The product page says it uses black-eyed peas, rice bran oil, and proprietary products, and that it is formulated to help lower body temperature while improving wool and hair quality. Umbarger says it is for market and breeding sheep and goats, including during the holding phase.

Umbarger’s feeding note says to start with 4 to 8 ounces per feeding, and to increase the amount for accelerated maturity when needed.

The product page calls it a grower-finisher ration and says it is medicated with 30 g/ton of Bovatec. Umbarger’s feeding note says to choose the ration by how the lamb looks, not by weight.
• Lamb 17% with Barley — Lower-protein feed to add a smooth finish and a firm handle.
• Lamb 16% Hi-Energy — Higher-fat ration for adding bloom and condition quickly.
• Lamb Creep 19% — Lower-fat creep ration with cracked corn.
