Gut Candy

Daily digestive tract conditioner — probiotics, enzymes, and microflora for optimal digestion; especially valuable during hard final-push feeding and show travel stress

Always read and follow product labels for feeding and sheep safety.

Overview

Gut Candy is SSS’s daily digestive conditioner — a probiotic, enzyme, and microflora supplement designed to optimize gut function in show animals being pushed hard in the final weeks of a show program. SSS specifically recommends it when animals are going off feed, during the hard final push, and during holding at multi-day events. Available in 10 lb (snap-on lid) and 25 lb (screw-top) pails. The paste version (Gut Candy Paste) is the show-box tube form for on-site use. Ingredient list and guaranteed analysis are not publicly available — copper level unknown.

How Experienced Feeders Actually Use It

Gut Candy is deployed in two specific scenarios: (1) the hard final-push feeding period (weeks 5–1 before the show) when lambs are eating at maximum capacity and digestive stress is highest, and (2) during multi-day show events when animals are in holding pens, stressed, and often off feed. SSS recommends increasing the rate to 2 oz/day during these high-demand periods. It pairs naturally with Gold Dust for a layered probiotic approach — Gold Dust provides egg/dairy protein + probiotics; Gut Candy adds enzymatic digestive support.

Phase Protocols

Weeks 5–3 | Final Push Support

  • Rate: 1 oz/day — begin Gut Candy as feeding intensity increases
  • Purpose: Support gut health during the period of maximum feed intake

Weeks 2–1 / Show Week | Elevated Stress Period

  • Rate: 1–2 oz/day
  • Purpose: Maintain digestive function during transport, environmental stress, and show holding conditions

Show Day / Holding Pen

  • Rate: 1–2 oz in ration or transition to Gut Candy Paste for show box
  • Purpose: Keep gut active and absorptive during long holding periods

Stacking Protocols

Gut Candy + Gold Dust: Layered probiotic and enzyme combination — Gold Dust provides the probiotic organisms and egg/protein factors; Gut Candy adds the enzymatic digestive support. Used together during the hard push and at shows.

Gut Candy + Gut Candy Paste: Powder form for daily barn use; paste form for show box and travel. Same product family, different delivery format.
