High Octane Power Fuel Extreme
High-fat energy supplement for building fat cover and condition when Golden Ticket alone isn't enough
Always read and follow product labels for feeding and sheep safety.
Overview
Power Fuel Extreme is Purina’s high-fat extruded nugget for building fat cover and energy density in show lambs that need more condition than Golden Ticket alone can provide. At 31% crude fat in a small daily serving, it delivers a concentrated energy load without requiring large feed volumes. The extruded nugget format is highly palatable. It includes Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids for skin and coat quality alongside the fat-building benefit. Rolled barley handles most of what Power Fuel does at a fraction of the cost — Power Fuel earns its spot only when barley + Golden Ticket still isn’t building enough cover.

How Experienced Feeders Actually Use It
Power Fuel Extreme is a secondary energy tool — it only earns its place in a show program when Golden Ticket and rolled barley aren’t producing enough cover. Most experienced feeders run barley as their baseline energy and layer Golden Ticket in the final 6-8 weeks. Power Fuel comes in when those two together still leave the lamb behind on condition. Some feeders run it alongside Golden Ticket at reduced rates of each rather than maxing out either product alone. The show circuit consensus is that rolled barley does about 80% of what Power Fuel does for a fraction of the price.
Real-World Feeding Rate
- Typical rate: 8 oz/day when in the program
- Introduction timeline: 10-14 day blend-in — do not introduce at full rate
Common Deviations from Label
Label max is 8 oz/day for sheep. Most feeders stay at or below 8 oz/day — exceeding this with a 31% fat product risks digestive upset. Some feeders split the dose morning and evening rather than feeding all at once.
Breed-Specific Notes
Most useful for naturally lean breed types or individual hard keepers. Suffolk show lambs and other heavily-muscled breeds that don’t carry easy fat cover are the most common candidates.
Phase Protocols
Weeks 8–6 | Condition Building Phase
- Rate: Start 2–4 oz/day, build toward 4–8 oz by end of phase
- Purpose: Begin supplemental fat loading if lamb is behind on cover
Weeks 5–3 | Fill & Shaping Phase
- Rate: 4–8 oz/day
- Purpose: Maintain fat cover building alongside Golden Ticket
Weeks 2–1 | Final Prep Phase
- Rate: 8 oz/day — hold steady
- Purpose: Maintain cover into show week; no major changes
Stacking Protocols
Power Fuel Extreme + Golden Ticket: The most common stack when extra cover is needed. Run at reduced rates of each rather than maxing both — feeders typically do ½ Golden Ticket + ¼ Power Fuel rather than full rate of both.
Power Fuel Extreme vs. rolled barley: Barley first — cheaper and effective. Only add Power Fuel when barley isn’t producing the result needed.
Conflict — Power Fuel + Fitter 35/52: Opposing goals. Do not run simultaneously.
Budget Alternatives
- Rolled barley (4–12 oz/day): handles most energy/cover work at a fraction of the cost
- Rolled barley + rolled oats blend: moderate energy without the high fat premium
